I preformed my piece with the intention of
showing the audience snippets of a characters life. I wanted a character that
was not only relatable (not only to those working or having lost a job) but
also a character which the audience could grow with. I wanted them leaving the
performance feeling refreshed and knowing that everyone goes through good and
bad days, but life still goes on. The main purpose was to entertain the
audience.
Everything ran smoothly on the day of the
mocks, however I felt as though I did not perform as well as I could have. I
forgot to do the tapping of my finger in the second half of the performance,
this meant that the audience would not have seen as much of a development in
the character. This also helped to bring out the idea that this character has
grown and lived before the scenes shown. I also felt that in the second half I
needed to play up my emotions more to show a bigger contrast between my status
in part 1 (Sad & hopeless) and part 2 (happy & hopeful). I also realised
that, although I had timed it while practicing and it was the right time, It
was slightly too short in the mock.
I talked to my peer mentor and she gave me
some really good feedback, some positives were:
·The first section really showed
the emotion.
·There was a clear change
between part 1 and part 2
·The tapping was good.
She also gave me some advice and things to
work on:
·Add in some humming in the
second scene.
·Be overly happy and excited in
the second scene to really bring out a contrast between the two.
·Do something with costume to
show the change – have the shirt untucked in the second scene.
·Learn the lines better.
My teacher’s advice:
·Internal vs external status
play around with this more.
·Maybe the character doesn’t
feel as though she deserves this position.
oChecking things
oTentative
oDoes not feel comfortable
oSwitches status quickly (a
stimulus – knock at door or telephone ring)
